Program Note:
Organic Reflections unfolds as a transcendent journey within the Unreal Engine, where the interplay between gesture and texture creates an organic relationship. Sound breathes life into morphological structures, weaving an intricate tapestry of sonic attributes translated a reflection to the vision. Dynamicity, timbre, pitch, and rhythm are decided algorithmically and aleatorically which constructs audio-visual motives, crafting intrinsic meanings that form the essence of this real-time transdisciplinary work. In the realm of this audio-visual odyssey, small modules of musical motives coalesce, giving birth to organic reflections that mirror the nuances of reality. Immerse yourself in the organic dance of sound and vision, where each moment is a canvas painted with the fluidity of sonic expression and the ethereal flow of organic reflections.
About the Piece:
Organic Reflections is a real-time audiovisual composition created entirely within Unreal Engine 5, where sound and image are organically intertwined through procedural design. Composed and conceptualized by Deniz Çağlarcan, the work explores the interplay between gesture and texture, where sonic and visual elements emerge from a shared generative framework. Algorithmic and aleatoric processes shape musical gestures—built from analog waveform samples, granular synthesis, and custom synthesizers recreated in Metasound—resulting in continuously evolving sound structures. These gestures, in turn, dynamically trigger the visual components of the piece, establishing a tightly integrated audio-visual language.
The project reflects Çağlarcan’s transdisciplinary approach, where sound design, composition, and visual motion are conceived holistically. The visual realization was developed in close collaboration with computer engineer Tarık Tamyürek, who translated Çağlarcan’s design and interaction models into Unreal Engine 5, ensuring that the audio drives the visual experience in real time. The result is a generative, immersive environment where small sonic modules coalesce into a larger, fluid system—organic reflections that mirror and transform perceptual reality.
